Business Corner:

How do you get ready for your dental appointment? Verify our new address, brush your teeth, floss …. Well as you get ready for your appointment with us, we get ready for the appointment, too.  Every morning we have what we call a Morning Huddle. The dental team meets in front of a computer with the schedule for the day pulled up so we can look at it. We have a Thought for the Day that the Business Manager shares – often relating to the weather, holidays, etc. Then we discuss where to put any emergency patients on the schedule and review any emergency calls or post-op calls to Dr. Noel from the night before. The dental assistant then reviews information on each patient in her schedule with Dr. Noel … why the patient is coming in, any allergies, any special needs, etc. The dental hygienist does the same thing with her patient schedule and the Business Manager adds information on any patient with insurance or billing needs, or information beyond clinical needs.  The team discusses as needed to be ready for you and then we look at the next day to start thinking ahead. Besides reviewing patient needs, this is a great opportunity for our team to connect with each other and know we’re all set for the day!!

Periodontal Disease Facts and Info:

  • Half of Americans age 30 or older have periodontitis, the more advanced form of periodontal disease - this is about 64.7 million Americans;

  • Periodontal disease is an inflammatory disease that affects the soft (gum) and hard (bone) structures that support your teeth;

  • Early in the disease process, it’s called gingivitis, the gums become swollen and red due to inflammation which is the body’s natural response to harmful bacteria;

  • When the disease progresses, it is called periodontitis and the gums pull away from the tooth and supporting gum tissue is destroyed;  patients can have bone loss and not know it;  teeth may loosen or eventually fall out;

  • Periodontal disease usually doesn’t hurt until it’s advanced;

  • Important risk factors include inherited or genetic susceptibility, smoking, lack of adequate home care, age, diet, health history, and medications;

  • Gum disease is linked to heart disease, diabetes, stroke and rheumatoid arthritis;

  • We can diagnose periodontal disease through x-rays and measuring for any periodontal pocketing when you’re in for an appointment.

Office News Corner:

No dental insurance?  Dr. Noel can help!!  He knows that money prevents people from seeing a dentist twice a year, as recommended, for dental cleanings.  And then again, if any active dental care is needed.  With that in mind, Dr. Noel created the Good Neighbor Loyalty Discount Plan.  For an individual the cost is $250 and that includes two cleanings, exams and x-rays in a calendar year and then 15% off any active care.  For 2 or more family members in a household, the cost is $500.  This is NOT an insurance plan and there is no enrollment fee or administrative fee associated with the plan and there is no third party involvement.  Call the office at 402-331-0828 to learn more … we’re happy to help!!

For the next few newsletters we will highlight one of our team members so you can get to know him/her better.  For this September Newsletter, we put the focus on our dentist/owner, Dr. Burke Noel.

Dr. Noel was born and raised in Texas. He completed his undergraduate degree at Texas Tech and graduated from Baylor with his dental degree. Dr. Noel has practiced dentistry in the Omaha area since 2000.  He is married with a blended family of six (yes 6!) children and one dog. Dr. Noel performs all types of general dentistry with an emphasis towards implant placement and Cerec crowns. He tries to be as up-to-date with technology as possible while looking at what is the best option for his patients. As for his ‘happy place’, just about any outdoor activity will put a smile on his face!!  And if you have time, ask him about his cooking – especially smoking meats!!
